St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota has approximately 3,000 acres of land and 15 miles of trails that are open to the public. This is very generous of them and I offer gratitude for it. Detailed information about their land and water priorities is on their website.
“Make accessible a natural environment that invites spiritual renewal” That quote is from their mission statement. A worthwhile goal!
Here are photos and maps. I was there in the summer and fall. I have not been there since snow arrived and did not see any hiking restrictions on their website. If anyone reading this has information about hiking at St. John’s in the winter, please share!
Before you go there, it is important to note that dogs are not allowed. A bummer to be sure, but good to know before you get there.

Trail Map. The pdf is available on their website.

Below is the route walked by my friend and I in October 2025. The chapel is on the point between mile markers 1 and 5. I do not know what happened to mile marker 2, maybe it is underneath mile marker 5. That day was a perfect walking day with sunshine and fall colors.

Have you walked here? Please share something of your experience. I have not yet explored the north section. Next time!
